Small Diameter Sewer Cured-in-Place-Pipe Project
Okaloosa Mobile Area Water & Sewer System, AL
In May 2016, the Mobile Area Water and Sewer System (MAWSS) contracted with Constantine Engineering to design, bid, and provide construction administration and oversight for approximately 79,300 linear feet of 6-inch to 15-inch cured-in-place-pipe lining. This project included sewer gravity pipe segments located throughout a widespread area of Mobile County. The project included all of the collection system pipes with the worst condition rating which do not require excavation for point repairs. This project was purely trenchless rehabilitation. The project also consisted of pre- and post- construction cleaning and CCTV internal video inspection of the sewer gravity pipes. The curing of the new lining system utilized steam curing system. There were over 2,000 lateral connections that required testing to determine if the service was active or inactive. The active taps were reconnected following the cured-in-place-pipe lining, and the inactive taps were not reconnected. This procedure reduced the infiltration volume on the system by eliminating many leaking abandoned service lines throughout the system. The project required coordination with local municipal permitting, Alabama Department of Transportation permitting, County, and Airport permitting. The project was funded by SRF loan and was ultimately delivered within schedule and budget.
