2016 SPLOST North Mainland Sewer Improvements
Brunswick-Glynn Joint Water & Sewer Commission, GA
Constantine Constructors and Constantine Engineering completed upgrades and modifications to six sewer lift stations (LSs) for the Brunswick-Glynn County Joint Water and Sewer Commission (BGJWSC) as part of the 2016 SPLOST North Mainland Sewer Improvements Project, Phase I. The project included upgrades to Lift Stations 4005, 4006, 4028, 4048, 4039, and 4110 and their associated force mains and gravity lines. The existing North Mainland Sewer Transmission System (NMSTS) required additional transmission capacity immediately.
The project was completed using the Design-Build delivery method. The major improvements to the six (6) lift stations all included significant bypassing of existing wastewater flows and tie-ins to existing influent and discharge force mains; replacing the existing electrical, control, and SCADA panels with new equipment; replacing the existing yard and wet well discharge piping, valves, flow meter, and appurtenances with new equipment including HDPE Pipe; and constructing new pads and permanent bypass pump piping. Several included wet well rehabilitation by a third-party subcontractor contracted with BGJWSC.
Specific improvements to individual pump stations included the construction of a new off-site duplex jockey pump station using diesel pumps to temporarily boost the 2,300 gpm flow in the undersized force main from LS-4110 during high flow periods. In the future, the jockey station can be disassembled, and the diesel pumps can be used as emergency back-up pumps elsewhere in the system.
